History Overview

Founder Lance Linkel grew up in Pepperell MA a small rural town about an hour Northwest of Boston, MA. His family owned Scotch Pine Farm there.

While in high school Lance built stone walls in and around the Pepperell area. It was his first experience with environmental work.

His stone work was made easier with the purchase and rebuild of a 1952 Bobcat Skid-Steer loader. The price was right because the engine was in the bucket loader. So, with the help of his father, Lance rebuilt “Sparky” to help move stone for the stone walls he built in and around Pepperell.

Lance studied engineering at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell which complemented his lifelong interest in improving the environment.

He and his wife Donna moved to the Brunswick area in 1997 and founded Linkel Environmental. They did a variety of stonework projects initially. But, what really set Linkel apart was the work they did for coastal property owners: seawall construction, revetments and living shorelines.

Over the 30 plus years of business, Lance built a team of professionals. They take pride in their work. They work hard to minimize their impact on the project area. And, they do this work all within the context of providing the right environmental solution for the situation.

Linkel Environmental has a proven history of success with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection; Maine Department of Marine Resources; Atlantic Salmon Federation; Long Creek Watershed; National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association; Maine Coast Heritage Trust to name a few.
