Libson Dam

First in a series of dams along the Sabattus River to be removed or modified. Affiliated organizations include the Department of Marine Resources and the Department of Environmental Protection. 

Project Details

Fish were unable to pass over the dam structure and there was mercury contamination at the base of the dam. 

A coffer dam was built to contain the contaminates. The mercury was then removed. Next a section of the concrete dam was removed. Finally, the ledge was modified to allow for successful fish migration.
